OK, I bought a new hard drive (Maxtor MaXLine Pro 500 7H500F0 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s) from newegg.com. Since it was an OEM, it didn't come with cables, documentation, etc... So, I need to by a cable. Does that 3.0Gb/s mean it's SATA II? I want to make sure I pickup the right cable and it looks like it would be a SATA II, but online it just says SATA.
Any ideas?

Here is one link i found dealing with the sata vs sata II. I believe that youre hard drive is SATA standard. The SATA II was a rename of the company specs. I do believe SATA II is the standard in which they define the new hard disc writing speed to the sectors. The SATA II was the first to produce a 3.00gb/s sector writing speed. And that is where the confusion is.. newayz. read this article below and hopefully this helps.. Thanks Crazycamo www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=16014

Thanks a lot Crazy... I picked up a SATA cable from a small computer store by my house for $2.00, connected me new 500GB hard drive and I'm in business! Unfortunately, the software on Maxtor's website for installing drives (partitioning, drivers, etc...) doesn't work with Window's Vista. However, Vista has its own program built in for this and it worked great. Thanks again for your help!

You can turn off the Accept/Deny confirmation. I turned that off after about 2 minutes of installing all my new programs. It was killing me!

Oh really.. I havnt worked with vista yet. except that laptop. and after about 30 seconds i gave it back and told her it would work. We dont have the most updated version of all the applications we run so they wouldnt work. I was told you hafe to have the most updated version of all programs to install them. Im not for shure though.. I need a copy of vista so i can install it on a test box and play around. so if you get a unlim copy of xp vista let me know..

Yeah, I've been watching on FrostWire to download Vista (for my older PC), but so far no luck. I don't know if you have to have the newest version of all software. I installed Office XP, an old version of CuteFTP and a few other older programs and they all worked fine. I'm sure there are some (like AOL) that you have to download special/newest versions for.
